Country Is The State I’m In

Words and Music by Susan Cattaneo

When I’m tired of the city and always feeling gritty,
I need a little change of pace
I close my eyes, imagine prairie skies
And soon I’m in a different place

Instead of concrete, there’s miles of mesquite
And cactus stretchin’ arms up high
And I feel so happy that I want to grin
Country is the State I’m In

Country is the State I’m In
It’s a paradise that I’m imaginin’
If you see me smilin with a big ole grin
Country Is the State I’m In

When my head hits the pillow, I dream of Amarillo
And so begins my fantasy
Where my heap of junk becomes a shiny red truck
Cruisin into Abilene

These high heeled shoes turn into steel-toed boots
Two-steppin in a country line
While a cowboy serenades me on his mandolin
Country is the State I’m In

Country is the State I’m In
It’s a paradise that I’m imaginin’
Where my cowboy boots fit like a second skin
Country Is the State I’m In

I don’t need meditation just some imagination
To take me where I want to go
My mind heads west and then the fun begins
Country is the State I’m In

Country is the State I’m In
It’s a paradise that I’m imaginin’
It’s as close to heaven as I’ve ever been
Country Is the State I’m In
